
Interested in determining prevention strategies that impact multiple risk factors with a shared risk and protective factor approach? While risk and protective factors play a crucial role in effective substance use disorder prevention, the application of a risk and protective factor theory is not unique to the field. The use of risk and protective factors to prevent unwanted behaviors or negative health outcomes, appears across many different prevention fields. From the lens of substance use disorder primary prevention best practices, this case study explores the intersections of addressing risk and protective factors from multiple behavioral health prevention fields at the same time, also known as a shared risk and protective factor approach.
