The Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) released the National Drug Control Strategy, which establishes the Trump Administration’s priorities for addressing the challenge of drug trafficking and use. The overarching goal of the Strategy is a comprehensive approach that includes preventing initiates to drug use, promoting treatment services leading to long-term recovery, and aggressively reducing the availability of illicit drugs in America’s communities.
Prevention activities in the Strategy include:
- Implement a Nationwide Media Campaign
- Address Safe Prescribing Practices
- Expand the Use of Prescription Drug Monitoring Programs
- Strengthen the Capacity of State, Local, and Tribal Communities to Identify and Prevent Substance Abuse
- Enhance the Research and Development of Evidence-Based Prevention Programs
- Continue to Strengthen ONDCP’s Drug-Free Communities (DFC) Program
- Expand Drug Take-Back Across the Country
