The creation of mentoring programs is an important piece towards designing effective community programs. The concept of mentoring can improve an organization’s ability to understand and meet the needs of the populations they serve. This training provides guidance on the basics needed to create a successful mentoring program. Participants will observe best practices identified within other programs and acquire knowledge on the various concepts of learning and training techniques.
The following will be addressed:
- Overview of youth mentoring
- Designing a youth mentoring program
- Exploring research-based mentoring best practices
- Developing initial and ongoing mentor trainings
- Youth development: Understanding today’s youth
- Creating effective mentor/mentee matches
