CPI Publications

New! Guide to Writing a Strategic Prevention Plan PDF
CPI developed a new document to help counties write their Strategic Prevention Plans (SPPs). The Guide is organized into an introduction and five parts, each of which corresponds to one of the five steps of the Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF). There is also an appendix with samples and useful data sources. The Guide is suitable for those counties with more experience in writing a SPP, those who simply want a reminder of required elements, or those who can work easily from an outline. It is also suitable for coalitions, community groups, and nonprofit agencies seeking grant funding where the funder requires a strategic prevention plan, but doesn’t require it to follow any particular format.

Check out our newly designed Publications pages with new search options and categorized sections by subject.

Serving California's
Prevention Community

The Community Prevention Initiative (CPI) provides no-cost technical assistance and training in substance abuse prevention. CPI is administered by the Center for Applied Research Solutions and funded and directed by the California Department of Health Care Services.

The TTA project is intended to serve California agencies and organizations involved in community-based prevention. CPI is able to provide no-cost TTA support for planning and prevention services that include a broad community perspective. Specifically, the purpose of Community Prevention Initiative, is "to reduce and manage community-level risks and problems directly attributable to and/or collaterally resulting from ATOD availability, manufacture, distribution, promotion, sale and/or use."

The CARS CPI TA team works in coordination with the DHCS team and with a pool of expert consultants to provide services.
